Elyssa Ashley Lau
Elyssa is a very typical teenager who does not do much but there are little things about her that make her unique. She's very quiet and doesn't speak much but when someone gets to know her, her true humorous and fun side comes out. She's not a happy go lucky person but she's also not a very sad person, she's mostly average. What I did realize though, she can have little smart quirky comments on the side occasionally that shows a bit of her humor. If she's not on her bed playing on her phone, she's on the field playing soccer. She's very thoughtful and is selective with who she opens up to so if she ever trusts you or lets you in, you must be very special. I think this portrait really describes her because she's looking away which shows she thinks a lot and her body language shows how she's kind of closed in and her hand in front of her kind of creates a barrier from a person and her and in a way covers up her mouth which means she doesn't talk much.
I was actually really excited about this project because I love taking photos of other people and trying to show their characters but also in a way show a story. I'm not a very social person so taking a photo of someone I've never talked to was a little bit awkward for me. It was a good experience though because I learned how to interact with someone new in cases of having to take photos of someone I don't know since I'm usually just used to taking pictures of my friends. I wish to have had a little bit more time and I wish she would have opened up more so that I can possibly improve my shots of her but I think most of the photos turned out well. I was really happy that I was able to get some of her laid back and fun personality side other than just her casual look. Playing around with the lights and just figuring out when to do close-ups or body shots was a little difficult. Overall, I was happy with the outcome and the editing and loved the experience of shooting with someone new.
